Iceland's Wild South
Black sand beaches, the Laki craters, the rhyolite mountains of Landmannalaugar and the flanks of Hekla — six riding days through the best of Iceland's southern highlands, with the bike included.
Southern Iceland is the first half of our flagship Iceland Unleashed route, ridden at the same unhurried pace. We ride the legendary F-roads — Iceland's classified mountain roads, open only in summer — through lava fields, highland crossings, and river fords that most visitors never see. Then, instead of pushing north, we turn back for Reykjavík.
A week is enough to get properly into the highlands without needing two weeks off. The price includes a KTM 390 Adventure R, ready to ride on arrival — or, if you'd rather ride your own bike, we'll ship it from the UK or Europe at no extra cost.
The F-roads we ride are classified mountain roads, not off-road tracks. We always ride designated routes, with a support vehicle alongside and experienced guides throughout. The terrain demands attention and stamina rather than technical expertise. Riders with a reasonable level of mixed-surface experience do this route regularly and love every day of it.
Bike Included — Or Bring Your Own
A KTM 390 Adventure R is included in the price. Prefer your own machine? GS, Africa Twin, Tiger, KTM 890/1290, Multistrada, Ténéré, and similar big adventure bikes belong here too — shipping from the UK or Europe is included. F-roads and river crossings, at a pace that suits big bikes. Not an enduro tour.
Travelling With a Non-Rider?
Partners can follow in a rented 4x4. Two people per car, front seats, full view. Same route, same stops, same meals, same experience. The 4x4 is rented separately — we help you find a good deal, you book it yourselves. We recommend sharing one car between two people, and no more than two.

The Itinerary
Day01
Arrival Day — Welcome to Iceland
Meet your fellow riders in Reykjavík as we collect the bikes. A thorough welcome briefing covers the route, the roads, and how we ride together as a group. Then our first dinner and drinks in the capital to kick off the adventure.
Day02
First F-Roads
We will leave in the morning and head onto our first F-road to warm up. After that we follow tarmac roads the coast, stop for lunch and carry on to our first night accommodation. On the way we will see Gjáin and Grannifoss.

Day03
South Coast
A day on the south coast: Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, and the striking Reynisfjara black sand beach, plus the lesser-known Nauthúsafoss hidden in a gorge. After Vík, we head inland on F-roads to the hidden valley of Þakgil — cosy cabins and burgers in a cave.

Lava Fields of Laki
After restocking in Vík, we head into the remote Laki region — over 100 volcanic craters formed in the 1783 eruption. Water crossings are part of today's ride; we always cross as a group, with experienced riders in position to assist and the support vehicle alongside. We overnight in a remote ranger hut, completely off-grid.

Colourful Highlands of Landmannalaugar
Into Fjallabak Nature Reserve, riding F-roads through rhyolite mountains striped in red, green, and gold. We reach Landmannalaugar and set up base in a highland hut. The geothermal hot spring is right outside. You've earned it.

Riding Around Hekla Volcano
We explore Hekla volcano and its dramatic surroundings. Depending on the group, we can arrange an optional horse riding experience in this volcanic setting. We return to our Landmannalaugar base for the night.

Day07
Final Ride — Geysir & Back to Reykjavík
The final stretch back to Reykjavík, one last stop at Geysir, and then a proper farewell dinner in the city. The stories from this tour are usually better than the riding itself, which is saying something.

Who This Is For
Riders who are comfortable on gravel and mixed surfaces, happy to get wet, and ready to commit to the day — even when it asks more of you than expected. You don't need to be a technical expert. You need to be switched on, willing to follow guidance, and ready to work as part of a group.
Water Crossings
Several days include river crossings on the F-roads. We always cross as a group, with experienced riders in position to assist and the support vehicle close by. We brief every crossing before it happens. If anyone would rather not ride a crossing, we'll move the bike — no pressure, no judgement.
Why a Week Works
Six riding days gets you properly into the highlands — Laki, Landmannalaugar, Hekla — without needing two weeks away. It's the southern half of our 13-day Iceland Unleashed route at the same pace, so nothing is rushed. If you finish wanting more, the north is waiting.
Weather
August is Iceland's best riding window — but that still means rain, wind, and cold mornings in the highlands. Proper waterproof gear is essential, not optional. We'll send you a detailed kit list once you've booked.
Pace & Group Life
We ride at a pace that works for the whole group. In remote areas, we eat together, camp together, and support each other. No restaurants or shops for long stretches — just the team and the landscape.
Insurance & Licence
Travel insurance covering F-road riding is mandatory. A valid motorcycle licence is required, plus insurance recognised in Iceland if you bring your own bike. We'll send you a full preparation checklist once you've booked.

We always cross as a group, with experienced riders positioned to assist and the support vehicle close by. Before every crossing, we stop, brief the group, and assess conditions together. If anyone would rather not ride a crossing, we'll move the bike through. No pressure.
Yes — a KTM 390 Adventure R is included in the tour price, prepped and ready to ride on arrival. There's no separate rental fee.
Yes, at no extra cost — shipping from key ports in the UK and Europe is included, and the price is the same either way. Big adventure bikes are what our routes are built around: GS, Africa Twin, Tiger, KTM 890/1290, Multistrada, Ténéré, Norden, and similar machines. Road-only bikes aren't suitable for the F-road sections. We'll walk you through the shipping process once you've booked.
Completely fine — around half our riders come solo. You're sharing something intense together from day one and people bond quickly. Nobody has ever told us they felt like an outsider.
Carrying a pillion on F-roads is not something we recommend unless you have considerable experience doing it on similar terrain. If you'd like to bring a non-riding partner, they can follow the tour in a rented 4x4 — two people per car, both in the front seats with a full view. Same route, same stops, same meals, same accommodation. A partner place is £4,000, added to your booking — just select the option when you book. The 4x4 is rented separately — we help you find a good deal, you book it yourselves. We recommend sharing one car between two people, and no more than two.
It varies deliberately. Some nights are guesthouses or cabins with hot showers. Some are highland mountain huts — basic, functional, and memorable. We always tell you in advance what to expect.
No — it's generally cheaper and simpler for you to book your own. One note: don't book your return flight for the last riding day of the tour.
Flights, fuel, lunches (eaten on the go — not included), meals on arrival day, drinks (budget £50–100), optional activities, and parking fees (~700 ISK per stop). If you ship your own bike, any port storage fees too. We'll walk you through all of this in advance — no surprises.
A £1,000 non-refundable deposit secures your place — £2,000 if a non-riding partner joins you in a 4x4. Half of the remaining balance is due 180 days before departure, and the rest 90 days before departure. We send a reminder ahead of each payment date.
The £1,000 per-person deposit is non-refundable. If you cancel more than 180 days before departure, nothing further is owed. Between 180 and 90 days out, 50% of what you've paid is refunded. Within 90 days, no refund is possible. You can also move your booking to the following year's tour instead, or transfer it to another rider — full details are in our Terms and Conditions. We strongly recommend cancellation insurance to cover what we can't refund.
